Our first trip to Hunting Island State Park. A great campground! Great beach, fishing pier, nature trails and a lot more. We really enjoyed ourselves. Very clean campground. A lot of friendly staff on hand, as well as volunteers. A really good beach campground!
On the positive side, the campground has a beautiful view of and is on Sagadahoc Bay, not the ocean. At low tide, you can walk out for several hundred yards on the bay's sandy floor and dig for clams or shell hunt. A lot of natural beauty to behold. Mrs. Kosalka (owner/wife) was friendly, helpful and informative. A very nice lady. Fresh lobster & clams are delivered to your site on order. About 2 miles from Reid State Park which has four (4) great beaches. A great base for exploring up and down the coast as we did. Easy drive to Acadia National Park. On the negative, the place was shoddy at best. The bath house remained filthy for our entire 7 day stay. The bath house trash cans were emptied once. Trash on the floor. The toilets did not function correctly and were hard to flush, which often resulted in finding a full, over flowed toilet. The Port-a-potty at the bay side campground needs to be pumped out more than once a week, or they need to add another one. The dump station leaves a lot to be desired as well. The campground seemed just plain run down. Mr. Kosalka (owner/husband) leaves a lot to be desired as a campground host/owner. Not very pleasant and always seemed to be in a bad mood. Constantly complaining about the costs & effort involved with running a campground. Then he had the audacity to claim they were the highest priced campground around. This could be a great campground and has a lot of potential, but I would be hard pressed to return.
